VoIP and IP Telephony

What is VoIP and why might I want it?

At its simplest VoIP is using a network to connect voice calls by converting them to data; Voice over Internet Protocol. It can be pc to phone, phone to pc, phone to phone or pc to pc.

VoIP has some significant advantages but the most obvious is that if you have a network or need a network to send data you can get the best value out of it by using it to connect your calls. This is especially true where those calls are international; unlike the major carriers your network isn’t concerned how far the data it sends travels. Phone suppliers are; and they will charge you a significant premium for an international call.

Cost reduction isn’t the only advantage. VoIP systems can be integrated across offices to create a single, scalable phone network where you can see if a colleague is on the phone before you call, they can be used to send files during a call and they’re easier to upgrade than existing systems.

Business VoIP

Our global quality-of-service network is designed with video in mind, so carrying business-quality VoIP calls is robust, straightforward and cost-effective; it’s a great starting point for an integrated full function network.

There are many benefits to using vc-net for VoIP business calls.

  • Make free calls – make free calls between internal sites, and lower costs when using a gateway to external calls
  • Simplified infrastructure – with VoIP on your IT network you no longer need separate cabling for your telephone system
  • It’s scalable – traditional phone systems come in make shapes and sizes and, over time, it may be necessary to scrap existing systems and replace your hardware – this doesn’t apply to VoIP systems
  • Reduce your operating costs – because a VoIP exchange is based on software rather than hardware, it’s easier to update, expand and maintain
  • Improve your productivity – VoIP treats voice calls as though they were any other kind of data, so you can attach documents to voice messages or participate in virtual meetings using shared data and video conferencing
  • vc-net internet telephony – vc-net’s expertise in unified communications means we can integrate enterprise-class IP telephony into collaboration solutions

Wireless VoIP

The attraction of going wireless is obvious - plug your phone in over the internet, log in to your regular office phone extension, and you’re then free to make and receive calls as if you are at your desk. Talk where and when you like but for the low costs normally associated with VoIP rather than traditional mobile networks.

At present, there are a number of options for VoIP business clients to go wireless and we would be more than happy to take you through those options and recommend which one that is best for your business. Contact us to find out more.
